Signs of hail on your roof

  • Dents or dark spots on shingles where the grit got knocked off. Gutters often fill with that grit after a storm.
  • Dings in metal vents, flashing, gutters and downspouts. They are easy to see from the ground and help show hail hit the roof.
  • Cracked or split shingles, or tabs that lifted in the wind that came with the storm.
  • A new ceiling stain or wet attic wood. That is a leak, so open the leak page now.

How the claim works

Call us first, and a roofer documents the hail damage for your claim. Take photos and video of the damage before anything is moved, then file as soon as you can.

The Texas Department of Insurance says to keep damaged things until the adjuster sees them. In Texas it is illegal for a roofer to offer to waive your deductible. A contract of $1,000 or more paid by insurance must say you pay it. The insurer has 15 business days to say it got your claim, per the Texas Department of Insurance.

Never sign the insurance check over to a roofer, the FTC warns.

Newest change: Texas SB 458 gives you a right to appraisal when you and your insurer disagree on the amount of a loss. It covers home policies issued or renewed after January 1, 2026. (Texas Department of Insurance)

Hiring a roofer in Fort Worth

Out-of-town crews arrive after big storms in Fort Worth. We send a local roofer, who has a local address, proof of insurance and a written quote before climbing up. Cost vs Value 2025 puts a full new asphalt roof at about $28,211 for its Dallas figure. Use that as a yardstick, since your roof's size changes the price.

  • State of Texas

No state roofing license. A written quote and proof of insurance are your papers.

  • Deductible

A roofer may not offer to waive or absorb it.

  • Permit

The roofer pulls the Fort Worth permit in their own name and gives you the number.
