Filing a roof insurance claim
Call now if roof damage in your state means filing a claim before the adjuster visits.
We pick up, go over your roof damage with you for free, and get a local roofer on it.

Insurers can deny damage they say got worse because you waited to report it. Call now and get your roof damage looked at before you file your claim.
Take photos first
Call us first, then take pictures and video of the damage inside and out, and list what was hurt. Keep damaged things until the adjuster sees them. The Texas Department of Insurance says the same.
Get a roofer on the roof
Report the claim, then have a roofer mark each hit and photograph it before the adjuster comes. Ask for that report in writing, and send it in.
File the claim
File with the insurer online or by phone, and write down the claim number and the date. Keep receipts for a tarp or temporary repairs, since those costs are part of the claim. In Texas, if you hear nothing after 15 business days, press the insurer and log the date, per the Texas Department of Insurance.
The adjuster visit
The adjuster looks at the roof. Ask your roofer to be there, so the two can agree on what is damaged.
If the adjuster's number is lower than your roofer's written quote, ask the insurer in writing for appraisal. Texas SB 458 gives you a right to appraisal when you and your insurer disagree on the amount of a loss. It covers home policies issued or renewed after January 1, 2026.
Why the first check is smaller
Some policies pay replacement cost, the full price to fix the roof at today's prices. Others pay actual cash value, which is less on an older or worn roof.
On an older roof, an actual cash value check can land well below the roofer's quote. Your wind and hail deductible may also differ from your other deductible.
If they say no
Ask for the denial in writing, then ask your roofer which damage the adjuster missed. In Texas the insurer must explain a rejected claim in writing.
Never sign your insurance check over to a roofer, the FTC warns.
In California you have at least 12 months from the first actual cash value payment to collect full replacement cost. After a declared state of emergency, you have at least 36 months. Keep every receipt until the full payment arrives. In Colorado a roofer may not pay or waive your deductible.Questions people ask
Is it smart to file an insurance claim for your roof?
It makes sense when storm damage costs more than your deductible. Wear and old age are usually not covered.
What roof damage does insurance cover?
Sudden damage like hail, wind or a fallen tree is often covered. Check your policy, or ask your agent.
How old can a roof be before insurance pays less?
There is no single age. Actual cash value policies pay less as a roof gets older.
What should I not say to an insurance adjuster?
Stick to what you saw and when. Do not guess at causes, and let the photos and the roofer report speak.
